AT HOME ACTIVITIES FOR THE LITTLE EQUESTRIAN ENTHUSIAST

Hay, y’all! Do any of you happen to be raising Little Lovers of Huge Horses? If so, Netflix has a special treat for you! Dreamworks + Netflix have partnered up to bring you a new Netflix Original, Spirit: Riding Free. The new series is inspired by DreamWork’s 2002 film, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, yet this time the Spunky Stallion befriends a 12-year-old girl transitioning from city to country life in the West. Together, Spirit + Lucky go on wild adventures, building confidence in themselves + each other.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s scheduled to premiere on the eve of this years’ Kentucky Derby, next Friday, May 5. =)

We were lucky enough to have been granted access to a few episodes before the series officially premieres. My 4-year-old loved it so much that we have watched each of the early access episodes two times in less than 12 hours. Pretty much only stopping for a craft trip into town + meals. She dances to the opening song + much like Lucky, verbally expresses her desire for Spirit’s freedom. =)

So if you happen to have the pleasure of having a Little Equestrian Enthusiast living in your home, along with watching the new Netflix Original, you can download + print this Spirit Riding Free Craft + Activity Packet. The Packet includes coloring pages, a maze, a word search and directions for how to make your own Friendship Bracelets + Friendship Frame. So fun! We printed off the packet + began coloring the pages + working the word search. Then an idea sprung into mind. I wonder if we could make Spirit inspired string art. Off to the aforementioned craft store we went to gather the supplies needed. It turned out pretty cute, right?! The Spirit + Lucky Coloring Page made the perfect string art template. =)

Here’s How You Can Use A Coloring Page As A String Art Template.First things first, you’ll need:

coloring sheet,
piece of board, (I used a 9 in circle)
hammer + nails
string or thread
tape

Attach the coloring page to the board using a piece of tape + begin hammering the nails in along the outline of Spirit.

After the outline is in place, remove the coloring page + begin twisting the thread along the outline of Spirit.

Continue with additional string/thread until the desired look is achieved.

Done + Done.

Have a peek at the trailer above, add it to your Netflix watch list + get busy crafting with those Adventure Seekers in your family. Here’s the Spirit Riding Free Craft + Activity Packet download link just one more time. =)
